From the original Hohokam residents over 2,000 years ago, to the Mormon settlers from St George Utah in 1877, Mesa ranks as the 37th largest city and has become one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
With over 320 sunny days per year and cool winter nights, Mesa is an ideal city to raise a family or spend your retirement days playing golf.
With a small town feel and all the benefits of a large metropolis, Mesa has an extensive network of freeways, rapid bus routes and in December 2008 will be connected to the newly established light rail system. Virtually you are only minutes away from any part of the valley.
Located in Northeast Mesa lies one of the cities two airports. Falcon Field was established during World War II as a training field for RAF pilots and then transferred the city at the end of the war. In the Southeastern part of the valley is formerly Williams Air Force Base. After closed in 1993 to become Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, private, corporate and limited commercial flights all originate from this location
With a diverse population there are educational opportunities for all ages. Mesa public schools and Mesa Community College are some of the best schools in the east valley. Newly added Polytechnic, a satellite campus of Arizona State University, enrolls over 6,000 under graduate students in the scientific and engineering fields.
With three major malls in the city there is always plenty of shopping and dining available. Superstition Springs Center and Fiesta Mall both owned by Westcor are conveniently located and anchored by major retailers. Newly opened Mesa Riverview located near the corner of Loop 202 and Dobson Road is a mega outdoor retail center. Bass Pro Shops, Cinemark Theatres with other major retailers bring shoppers from all over the valley.
The Mesa Arts Center is a $95 million 250,000 square-foot facility designed and completed in 2005. This is the largest art campus and performance center in the state. With four unique performance venues with art classrooms and studios, this multi-use campus provides both indoor and outdoor areas for classes and presentations.
The Mesa Historical Society and Museum is always a good choice in the downtown area as well as the Commemorative Air Force Air Wing Museum, located at Falcon Field. View up close and personal one of the few surviving B-17 bombers, Sentimental Journey. The museum is full of military and air history.
Throughout the city are the three user friendly public libraries. The Main Library down town, Dobson Ranch Library in west Mesa and Red Mountain Ranch Library in the northeast valley.
Catch the excitement of Spring Training. Mesa is the proud host of the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball. Come out to the games, have a cold drink and a dog, let’s support our local area vendors.
